FAQ
The questions people actually ask.
If your question isn’t here, email hello@giftyour.name. We answer every message ourselves.
Before you buy
- Don't most people already own a domain?
- About 70 percent don't, and most have never checked. You can check for yourself on a name — try /gift/name, we won't ask for a credit card. If they already own it, we'll suggest the closest alternates we do have.
- What if the name I want is taken?
- We show 6-12 alternates automatically — first-last, last-first, first-initial-last, hyphenated, .me variants. The gifter picks the one that feels most like the person.
- Is this a subscription?
- No. One-time gift. Year one is included. If the recipient wants to keep the domain beyond year one, they opt in — we email before anything renews, never auto-charge without consent.
- Do you sell .com.au / .id.au / .net.au?
- No. Those domains require the recipient to sign paperwork up front, which would ruin the surprise. We focus on .com, .me, and similar domains that work for anyone.
- Can I buy from outside Australia?
- Not yet — we launch in Australia first, then the UK and US in 2027. Join the waitlist if you're reading from further afield.
After you buy
- When does the recipient get it?
- If you choose immediate reveal, the greeting page is live about two minutes after payment. The printed certificate arrives in 3-7 business days for Standard and Premium, or 7-10 days for Heirloom (it's hand-pressed in Melbourne).
- Can I set a reveal date?
- Yes. Birthday on the 12th? Pick it. We publish the page on the day and send the recipient an email. Physical certificates ship earlier so they arrive close to the date.
- Can I change my mind?
- Full refund within 24 hours as long as the greeting page isn't live yet. After it's live we offer an alternate domain or a credit. Refunds are processed same-day.
For the recipient
- How do I claim the domain?
- Scan the QR on the certificate, or visit the URL on it. We email you a one-click sign-in link — no password to remember. You land on your own dashboard with the option to add a free email address on your new domain.
- What about my kid's privacy?
- WHOIS privacy is on by default — our company appears in public records, not the child's name. Claimed domains stay private by default.
- Can the recipient move the domain elsewhere later?
- Yes — we'll add a one-click move-out in 2027. For now we hold the domain on their behalf; they control the site, the email, and every setting on it.
Trust & safety
- What stops someone gifting an abusive message?
- Every message is screened before the greeting page goes live (both the text and any photo). Anything flagged pauses for human review. Recipients can take any page down with one click.
- Where's the data stored?
- On Australian servers, in Sydney. We never sell, license, or share your data — ever.
